Fannish 50: The Fantasy Heroine Series (Youtube shorts)

The Fantasy Heroine Series by Jill Bearup: A #shorts series in which all your favourite and least favourite tropes are (affectionately) prodded at. There are 51 one-minute episodes arranged in a playlist.

It's a tongue in cheeks series that lampshades fantasy romance tropes. The writer Caroline is looking for a generic fantasy white girl heroine. Instead she gets Rosamund, a 36-year-old widowed mother of two, who can handle a sword only when it's proportional to her weight.

Caroline really wants to set Rosamund up with Hot Enemy Leo, while Rosamund is busy defending her children's inheritance after the murder of her husband. Therefore Catherine keeps throwing tropes (only one bed, fake marriage, etc) at Rosamund, who often surprises Caroline with her choices.

Caroline and Rosamund's back and forth are fun to watch. I really like the fourth wall breaking humour, and the writer clearly knows the tropes enough to make an affectionate parody.

There are currently 35 fics on AO3: link. The main ship is Rosamund/Leo, the canon couple. It's also requested in past Yuletide.

Fannish 50: Going Seventeen

Thanks to [personal profile] unavee's excellent primer, I have started watching Going Seventeen, a variety game show web series by the kpop group Seventeen.

It's very lighthearted fun to watch. The members seem to enjoy working in team and hanging out together. The show isn't cruel. The games and activities are varied. The episodes are largely self contained, so you can jump in any point and any order. English subtitle is available.

Episodes I have watched:

Don't Lie series I (Pt 1): a mashup of werewolf game and treasure hunt. They clearly have fun to be as chaotic as possible.

Mouse Busters: (starts from #1)The busters have to catch all the four members who play mouse, which each can use his special skill thrice to escape. There are a lot of running because the hiding ground is large. It feels very exciting with the cat and mouse pursuit.
