My favourite FOSS (free and open-source) games for Android

All are free, no ads and open source, unless specified otherwise

Heriswap: a match-3 game with soothing background music and graphic. It has 3 different game modes (score race, time attack and 100 seconds) and 3 difficulty settings. Available on F-droid only

Simon Tatham's Puzzles: a collection of 40 single-player logic puzzle games including minesweeper, sudoku, and bridges. Puzzles are generated on demand and adjustable. Available on Google play & F-droid. There's a web option too.

Mindustry: a hybrid of tower defense, RTS, and factory game very popular on Steam. Available on Google play & F-droid

Shattered Pixel Dungeon: a traditional roguelike dungeon crawler with pixel art graphics, randomly generated levels, and lots of variety and replayability: Available on Google play & F-droid

Unciv: "An open-source reimplementation of the most famous civilization-building game ever". Available on Google play & F-droid

I love logic games.
A Web version is neat and rare the days for games.

Thanks a bunch for this rev ❤️

I'm that kind of person that downloads a lot of apps but tend to delete them as soon as they bother me with too much adds.

Watch an ad to get a booster, watch an ad to get two extra moves etc ...
The only game where I regularly watch ads for more energy and sometimes shorter building times or items is EverMerge. There is it actually sometimes useful to spend two minutes watching a bunch of ads.

Otherwise it's awful, especially when the ads are forced on you and you need to watch them to continue or they interrupt the game.

And most of the time the ads are not even a tad interesting. Like, I would rather watch ads about stuff I like or looked up instead of random apps and games

I still don't understand why companies do that, when they made people delete the game soon after they downloaded it.
But it is even more awful to see an app that had been rather tame with ads turn into a massive ad or they add them after every silly little step.

I have lost track of how many apps I already had on my phone in the last years.

Oh and don't forget the false ads for game you might fall for.

I had Simon Tatham's Puzzles installed on an older device, years ago, but I've never been able to remember its exact name to install it on newer devices. Very glad to have found it again, thanks!
