Fandom Snowflake Challenge #12

Challenge #12
Tell Us about a Personal Win.

Share whatever wins you’re comfortable with telling us all about. Found a new fandom that makes you light up? One of your creations has earned more kudos than you dreamed of? Wins from life, new job, new school, new adventure? You have a couple of wins you want to celebrate, we want to hear about them. Share a win or two so we can cheer for you.

Last year, I tried to build a personal website to backup my fanwork. I learnt HTML in 2000s, so I had to catch up with development in web design. For example, I had to learn DIV+CSS instead of HTML table for website layout. The frame tag was also no longer supported in the current HTML standard.

By looking up HTML5 & CSS web tutorials, I learnt how to build a simple website that aimed to be accessible & mobile responsive. I now knew how to use CSS to add a navigation bar and foot bar for the whole web site.

Now the only thing missing is for me to upload everything upthere. But it's still a personal achievement.

Congrats! I know veeeery little about coding / html / etc. and getting started always looks daunting, so that makes this achievement all the more impressive to me.

That sounds amazing! I would have absolutely no clue where to even start with websites, so anyone who can do anything technical like that astounds me.๐Ÿ˜Š

This website is awesome. Itโ€™s a beautiful design. I understand very little with html.

Congratulations! Learning and applying things like HTML + CSS is absolutely a win, and now you have a place that looks and operates just the way you would like it to. (And that you can change, if you so desire.)

I love this so much (as a person who learned to code because of Neopets and Geocities)! It's crazy how web design has changed over the years, but it certainly makes things a lot easier when there are more ways to make a thing work. And tools to double-check that work.

Coding is a lot harder than people think it is, so kudos to you for brushing up on that again!

Taking the time to learn how to code your own site and then getting it up is a massive win!

aw, i liked frames. to be fair i was making personal web sites with them probably twenty years ago so i'm not super surprised they're not supported any more. in any case, go you for brushing up on your skills and building your own site!

Way to go!!!! I've always wanted to build a site to collect all my fic -- but with DECADES of writing and very little time, it just seems rather impossible... I'd also be in the same boat as you with the old HTML. :) Again, congratulations -- I GET what a HUGE WIN! this is!!

It's good to see people building things themselves.

Making a personal online backup of one's fics is a smart idea and huzzah for you learning all that coding! Website-making sure has gotten waaaay more complex since I learned the basics back in the early 2000s ๐Ÿ˜… Best of luck with the uploading!
