Oh, I've read a few of the essays in that book! I agree, it's inspiring. I think there was one essay that looked at a source text and all works inspired by it as being part of an archive, so that while fanfic doesn't influence a closed text directly, it still influences the archive of that text. A remember thinking it was a cool metaphor. And I always love hearing about the histories of fandom. I don't remember reading about a Cagey and Lacey letter campaign, so I must not have gotten that far in the book.
Which essay gave you insight into alpha/beta/omega fics?
