Recently I finally have time to delve into my massive backlog of solo ttrpg from the various huge itch.io bundles I bought.

Superhero DIY Award:

See Issue X
is a solo superhero RPG that emulate superhero comics. It uses playing cards to help generate characters and plot prompts. The mechanic is kind of complicated - I was confused how to deal with discarded cards at first. However, it provides a clear act structure and freedom for you to decide what prompts to use/ignore. I have generated my environmentalist Aquawoman superheroine who fights to protect the ocean and enjoyed the twists.

One More Tea Award

Last Tea Shop Complete is a solo RPG that you run a tea shop on the border of the living and the dead. The recently deceased visit for one last hot drink before their long journey into the Great Beyond. It's very reflective and meditative. It's fun to generate the vistors, and decide what tea to serve them (with different story effects).

Small Is Beautiful Award

One Day at a Thyme is a cozy solo journaling game in which you play the inhabitant of a cottage in a magical world. It's short and very relaxing to play.

Genre Savvy Award

Reincarnated as the Unlovable Villainess?! is a solo RPG that you are isekaied as the doomed villain protagonist in an otome game. I really like it. It's short but has a good balance of strategy elements (to survive to the end) and journalling elements. It's both a love letter to the genre and an enjoyable game.

New Year Resolution

I have just bought For Small Creatures Such As We, a 256 page solo ttrpg about a space ship captain and their alien crews. It's more structured and detailed than the above titles, but I hope I can start a game soon.

Recently I'm need of writing inspiration, so I'm playing solo tabletop RPG. Both are very good (and free).

80 Year Old Spy (Free) is a journalling tabletop RPG that you experience the career of a spy, navigating through a web of secrets and betrayals. It has a similar mechanic to "Thousand Year Old Vampire", in which you follow prompts to write a journal about a vampire. The vibe is very John le Carre, which your first decision has to do with betrayal and cost of missions. It is more fast paced than the Thousand Year Old Vampire, as it's easier for you to lose everything in that game. My character gets betrayed, loses everything (including their principle) and crashes and burns in recorded time.

Help! I Have a Crush on My Rival?! (Free): It's a journalling TRPG about the developing relationship between your character and their rival/crush. It's based on the Carta system, but choose to use cards to explore the metaphorical ups and downs of a relationship between two people. It's very flexible to decide on what the world and the characters are like. I set my game in a Roadside Picnic inspired setting, in which my MC and the rival are forced to work together to survive in the quarantined zone together. It's really fun.

Sometimes I wish that there was less need for these charity bundles to be organized. However, if you can afford them, they are great deals for worthy causes. If you find the itch.io search function lackluster, you can check out the content of Amor per Valencia / Love for Valencia, and TTRPGs for Trans Rights - Ohio bundles on Random Bundle Browser with a much better interface.

Reincarnated as the Unlovable Villainess?! is a free solo journaling game that uses a six-faced dice and a 20-faced dice. The player character (PC) reincarnated into a fantasy otome game they love. Unfortunately, they are not the beautiful and lovely Protagonist Penelope. Rather, they are her romantic rival, the arrogant, petty, and unlovable villainess who is rude to Penelope whenever, wherever. What’s worse is that they are doomed to be killed or imprisoned in every single route. The PC's goal is to avoid the bad endings, while possibly winning the love interest (LI) as they please and more. There are random tables for you to roll the potential LI, bad endings, scenario prompts and plot twists, etc.

The ticking clock really increases the tension of the game. Advancing relationship with LI can grant you one time bonus, but failure in scenario can set relationship back and even introducing major plot twist (eg: the heroine now knows that she's just a character). You have to consider the risk and reward, which really put you in the mood of the reincarnated villainess. I also like that I can be a really evil villainess and kind of deserve the bad endings. For people who like the reincarnated villainess genre and/or journalling games with a twist, it's a fun game to try.

I have bought the HRT Harm Reduction Toolkit Bundle and checked out two titles new to me first: Breakfast Cult and #iHunt: The RPG. Here are my first impression from reading about the books.

Breakfast Cult: "a Fate Accelerated TTRPG about cosmic horror mysteries and high school drama. " The art is colourful and cartoon style, which I think fit the game theme well. The book presents the setting and rules very clearly. Each character has a secret agenda so they may work at cross purpose amid cosmic horror investigation and teen drama. Depending on the game, the secret can range from more silly and high school drama trope (eg: Crush on X) to more serious (eg: Secret cultist). It provides pre-gen characters and scenarios so you can start a game easily. If you like Buffy, Harry Potter, or Soul Eaters, I think it'll serve well.

#iHunt: The RPG. "Killing monsters in the gig economy": It's a much darker game than Breakfast Cult. You play monster hunters who are also gig workers barely surviving on what they earn, dealing with sales tax and banking trouble. The book is thick - ~329 pages. The starting fiction set the setting's grim and depressing mood. The text (including the rules) is written in a more angry conversational tone, which YMMV whether you like it or not. There are robust advice about creating monsters, setting and the game rules. I think it does its focus very well.

Overall it's a worthwhile purchase for a good cause.

There are quite a number of tempting tabletop RPG bundles on sale, which is really bad to my wallet.

In coming end date order:

The Get Loud TTRPG Bundle (36 items for $20): This is a collection of indie tabletop RPG that the profit is shared among 20 creators. There are many interesting games. Highlight to me is Crescent 2e (kids having adventures in dreamscapes), Monster Care Squad (A Ghibli-inspired RPG about the people caring for magical monsters) and Trespasser  (with heavy Roadside Picnic vibe). Offer ends in 6 days.

HRT Harm Reduction Toolkit Bundle (30 items for $25): "100% of the proceeds of this bundle go directly toward Distribute Aid's efforts to supply kits of 1 year's necessary medical equipment into the hands of trans people in needs for free."  Offer ends in 16 days.

The highlight to me is #iHunt , a story telling game about killing monsters in the gig economy and Breakfast Cult, a Fate Accelerated TTRPG about cosmic horror mysteries and high school drama. Just ihunt, Breakfast Cult, and its expansion Game Over are worth nearly douple the price.

TTRPGs for Accessible Gaming Charity Bundle is raising money for https://www.dotsrpg.org/ to commercially produce braille dice on itch.io.
There are 314 items for $10. The offer is going to end in 2 days.

In the TTRPG industry, physical dice are plentiful for sighted individuals but scarce and often unaffordable for those who are blind or visually impaired. DOTS RPG Project is an organization focused on improving accessibility in tabletop roleplaying games.

Money raised from this charity bundle will help fund the production of their Signature Braille RPG Dice, manufactured in partnership with Die Hard Dice. This will make the first ever Braille RPG Dice available in a retail setting worldwide, helping make tabletop gaming more accessible for blind and visually impaired gamers. Read more about the dice here.

Game that looks interesting to me:
Kthonic Descent. (solo jurnalling game about descending to the byss for quest and adventure)
Bump in the Dark (Revised edition): an urban fantasy PBtA game that let you play game in Buffy, Night in the Woods, or Supernatura style
Rosewood Abbey: monks solve seemingly but not actually supernatural mysteries inspired by The Name of the Rose & Cadfael (TV)
The Narrator Paradox: a one page solo-narrating game where you try to tell a story ... if your protagonist will let you.

This Reddit comment lists more interesting tabletop rpg that haven't been covered in previous charity bundles.

The road has a song all to its own. Sometimes, when I stay in the same place for more than a few nights and I take some time to lie in the grass and stare at the clouds, I can forget that the song is even there. But eventually it always calls to me, and I’ll put on my cloak again, grab my walking stick and set foot once more.

In Wanderhome, you play an animal folk traveller in a dreamlike post-war pastoral world of Hæth. It's built on the No Dice, No Masters engine (often called Belonging Outside Belonging), which means that it's diceless and can be gmless. it uses a token system instead of dice. You spend a token for extra spotlight/game opportunity, and earns one when your character help others/express their true feeling/marvel at and share details about their surroundings. There're no monsters to fight. The conflicts are mostly within, as characters are looking for a home for different reasons. There're tools for locations and information about seasons to flesh out the characters' journey.

My Character:

Dancer: Your inner fire is a song in your heart, not a voice in your head. The world will not quiet you. You are alive. Your care is intense, vocal, and lighthearted )
