Challenge #3
In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren’t your cup of tea. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I like alternative universes because I like exploration of what if and what makes up a character: how will they change if they live in other societies/take a left turn instead of right in life.
Type of Alternative Universes I like:
- Canon AU, Mirror Universes, Canon divergent AU, Pre-canon AU that doesn't end up exactly the same as canon
- Supernatural AU especially for mundane setting canon: secretly supernatural characters, characters coming across the supernatural world, fantasy/horror AU, etc
- Fairytale AU, especially those that are less famous
- Historical AU especially set in less explored periods: Silk Road AU, Bronze Age period, Noir AU etc.
- Fusion with some thought how to integrate the characters. Planescape fusion is my guilty pleasure that I can rarely indulge.
Types of Alternative Universes I avoid:
- Mundane AU: I really don't see the point of taking away the alieness/supernatural/etc part of the characters and canon. I don't like coffee shop AU unless it's a place for characters to plan revolution/intrigue
- School student AU. I am bored by generic high school/university student lives in general, unless it's a special school like Starfleet Academy instructors and cadets , Hogwarts professors
- Unrelated AU: if you take the relationship away, it won't be the dynamic I like in canon anymore
