snowynight NASA’s Webb telescope is an initial success — despite formidable odds: I am really happy about that and can't wait to read about the discovery.
After finishing the Silt Verses, I listened to the first episode of The Town Whispers, an audio drama with folk horror and Lovecraftian horror. The narrator has a clear voice, and the production value is good. In the story, a stressed and unappreciated housewife meets a mind altering tree, but the resolution is not to my taste. Perhaps it will get better.
JJWXC, a major Chinese web novel site is going to launch an international site, and it doesn't accept translation from outside China, so many fan translators pulled their work because of the legal risk and worry of being stolen wholesale and put on the future site. There is rumour that the original writers won't benefit from any profit from the translated work. Judging from the site's poor past record in its treatment of its writers, I found the rumour sadly believable. Chinese fans already learnt the brutal lesson of saving everything because of censorship. It is sad to see international fans having to face this too.
Quite a number of my favourite Chinese web novel writers stopped updating their new work or didn't publish new work anymore for health and other reasons. 😥 The reduction of creative freedom and the rise of internet mobs probably don't help at all.
