Birdology: Adventures with a Pack of Hens, a Peck of Pigeons, Cantankerous Crows, Fierce Falcons, Hip Hop Parrots, Baby Hummingbirds, and One Murderously Big Living Dinosaur: I really like her thoughtful writing style, and I like the mix of scientific facts and stories about the birds from her hens to a 150 pound cassowary

The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration Into the Wonder of Consciousness by Sy Montgomery: I wasn't interested in octopuses before, but this book raises my awareness of octopus as an smart and agile species. The scientific facts are very interesting, and I love her thoughts and interaction with octopuses.

The Sting of the Wild by Justin O. Schmidt: I feel phantom pain just reading about the poisonous insects depicted in the book. It is interesting to know that social insects are more likely to have more painful and dangerous bite. Very interesting and informative read.

The Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World by Michael Pollan. This book talks about how our different desires shape the way we selectively grow, breed and modify plants with four examples: the tulip for beauty; cannabis for intoxication; the apple for sweetness; and the potato for control. Before this book I never knew that apples were super easy to mutate. Very fascinating read about history and agriculture.

Souvenirs entomologiques by Jean-Henri Fabre: Cited in Charles Darwin's treatise on natural selection, the lively work showed keen observations and passion about insects

The Bafut Beagles by Gerald Durrell: Durrell told his account of the 1949 expedition to the Cameroons collecting animals for zoos with self deprecating humour and keen observations about animals
