by Edna St. Vincent Millay

I know what my heart is like
Since your love died:
It is like a hollow ledge

Holding a little pool
Left there by the tide,
A little tepid pool,
Drying inward from the edge.

Edna St. Vincent Millay (February 22, 1892 – October 19, 1950) was an American lyrical poet and playwright. She was a renowned social figure and noted feminist in New York City during the Roaring Twenties and beyond. She was the first woman and second person to win the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.
