- Andrew in The Positronic Man by Isaac Asimov and Robert Silverberg: Andrew is a gentle and creative android who wants to be recognized as a human. I cried when reading the high price he paid for that.
- Murderbot in The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells: Who won't like Murderbot who uses its independence mostly to watch soap?
- An Zhe in Little Mushroom by Yi Shi Si Zhou: The story is set in a post-apocalyptic society where humans pay high cost to survive, with many tragedies and evilness. However, An Zhe (the titular sentient mushroom) is kind and adorable and watches everything with a refreshingly non-human perspective.
- Winnie the Pooh in Winnie the Pooh series by A. A. Milne. It delights me to read about the bear who really loves honey and its adventures with its friends.
- Death in Discworld series by Terry Pratchett: Mysterious but has a dry wit. One of my favourite characters in the the series.

The Positronic Man is one of the very few Isaac Asimov novels I haven't read, so thanks for bringing it to my attention.
