Challenge Day #5: In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.

My wish list:

1. Recs for music with female vocallist, or music by female composers. I like a variety of music: metal, rock, Celtic, pop, bardcore, country, etc. Music in non-English languages are welcomed! A sampling of my favourite singers/bands: Loreena Mckennit, Dar Williams, Vienna Teng, Within Temptation, XG, etc.

2. Recs for interesting blogs to follow. Books, nature, history, cute animals, trivia, tabletop RPG, world building, art and craft, or anything you find interesting

3. Stolen from [personal profile] kingstoken : Go to arab.org and "click to help", it's free. All raised money goes to UN agencies.

Snowflake Challenge: A warmly light quaint street of shops at night with heavy snow falling.

I recently got a bandcamp account and started buying music again. Two female-vocal albums that I recently purchased and love are: sometimes i sit and think, and sometimes i just sit by courtney barnett and Is It Now? by Automatic.

Also, this music video might be of interest to you.

Jenny Morris has been a favourite singer of mine for a long time. She's originally from New Zealand but has spent a lot of her working life in Australia, including as a backup singer for INXS back in the day.

Her album Salvation Jane is not one of her more high profile solo projects, but it's the one I keep coming back to.

Also, two tumblr blogs I enjoy: https://www.tumblr.com/the1920sinpictures (title self-explanatory) and https://www.tumblr.com/herpsandbirds - pictures of many beautiful reptiles and birds.

I'm currently really loving Noah Cyrus, who is much more folk/country than her sister, and sings a lot about family and personal growth, which is a nice mix up from love songs (which I also enjoy). The deluxe version I Want My Loved Ones To Go With Me was one of my albums of the summer last year.

You might like these female vocalists:

Azam Ali - She's originally from Iran. I'm not familiar with much of her more recent work, but I love her earlier songs, especially when she was half of the group Vas. In the Garden of Souls, Sunyata, Offerings, Feast of Silence, and Portals of Grace are great albums.

Natacha Atlas - Egyptian/Belgian singer, and again, I'm much more familiar with her earlier songs. There's some wonderful stuff on her albums Gedida, Halim, Something Dangerous and Foretold in the Language of Dreams.

Clicked to donate at arab.org and have bookmarked to keep going back. :)

Since you mention Celtic: check out the band Cara (if you don‘t know them already). Their band member Kim Edgar does lovely singer songwriter albums and has a very nice voice too.

This is my favourite cover of Tom Waits' "I'll be gone", with vocals by Shannon McGill Vasile. Great voice and performance.
